Beans
We used to roast like this:
Now we roast like this.
Africa & the Middle East
Cameroon Caplami Java
Roast: Full City (+)
- Rather dark bean color for a FC+.
- Surprisingly unaromatic as beans (like stale spices).
Kenya AA Nyeri – Karatina
Roast: Full City then Vienna. (Behmor)
- Very bright and acidic. Almost metallic. Thin cup, light body. We liked the Vienna much better, but that’s probably because roast characteristics took over.
Kenya AA ??
Roast: City (popcorn roaster)
- Very bright and aromatic. Slight chocolate notes, but overly acidic.
Tanzania Blackburn Estate AA
Roast: Full City
- Dense tea-like body.
Asia & Indonesia
Sumatra Blue Batak “Tarbarita” Peaberry
Roast: Full City (popcorn roaster)
- Full, rich, dense forest smell. Didn’t detect the plum, cardamom and clove like in the description.
Sumatra Classic Mandheling
Roast: FC (Behmor) 20:00 total roast time, stopped with 2:30 remaining.
Central America
South America
Colombia Choco – El Carmen del Atrato
Roast: Full City (Behmor)
- Gave some to friends, who liked it. We found it nice and round, smooth, sweet, medium thickness. Would do this one again.
Blends
Classic Italian Espresso Blend
Roast: Vienna+
- Evenly coloured
- Caramel-chocolate, fruity and earthy, heavy body.
Liquid Espresso Blend (SMs)
Roast: Vienna+ (Behmor)
- Partially arabica and partially robusta beans.
- Very aromatic—Dark Chocolate (90+%)
- Very good with milk drinks, almost too pungent as espresso.
- Good as a ristretto.
Monkey Blend (SMs)
Roast: Full City (Behmor)
- More rounded espresso at this roast.
- Good as espresso, but has a bit of a hard time cutting through either water (in americanos) or milk.
Roast: Vienna (popcorn roaster)
- Unimpressed, grassy, flat. Overly bitter.
- Try again.
- Juicy Rooibos Tea finish.
